Five soldiers detained in Madagascar over murder of local mayor

Five soldiers, among nine people suspected for the murder a local mayor, have been detained after appearing Tuesday January 23 before a court, local media in Madagascar reports.
The soldiers from Security Support Detachment of Ankazobe municipality have been sent to the main incarceration Center of the country, Tsiafahy.
Five other people, all civilians, among whom two local chiefs, have also been detained and are yet to appear before the Court of first instance of Ankazobe. The defendants have been charged with murder, armed robbery, complicity in murder and robbery, and extortion.
Another woman, the ninth suspect, has been freed on bail. Authorities have investigations into the death of Roger Rambola, the mayor of Andranomiely, a district of Ankazobe, killed on January 7.
