Benin, Bahamas establish diplomatic ties, scrap visa requirements

Benin and Bahamas have established diplomatic and cooperation relations between the two countries and have waived visa requirements for all sorts of passports.
Fredrick Mitchell, Bahamas’s Foreign Minister and Benin’s counterpart Olushegun Adjadi Bakari sealed the move on the sidelines of the third South-South Summit (G77 + China) held in Kampala, Uganda.
In line with the agreement, both countries also remove visa requirements for travelers holding any kind of passports. Bahamas becomes the seventh country in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to establish ties with the West African country which has recently embarked on diplomatic efforts to expand its relations with the African diaspora.
Mitchell, his department said, hailed this step as key in achieving closer cooperation and collaboration between the two nations, who already share a profound historical and cultural bond rooted in the transatlantic slave trade. More recently, both countries have come together to support the MSSM in Haiti.
Benin also in January, on the sidelines of the Non-aligned Summit in Kampala, signed an agreement with Sri Lanka to waive visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders.
