AFCON 2023: FRMF deplores all unsportsmanlike behaviors that followed Morocco-DR Congo Match

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) deplored, Monday, “without going into the logic of the accusations” all the unsportsmanlike behaviors that followed the Morocco-DR Congo match, played on Sunday, for the 2nd day of group F of the Africa Cup of Nations (2023 AFCON-Côte d’Ivoire).

In response to the controversy that followed the match, the FRMF recalled, in a clarification, “the special and historic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the fraternal ties between the peoples of the two countries.”

The Federation also highlighted “the exceptional cooperation between the FRMF and the Congolese Federation (FECOFA),” noting that “the number of Congolese players playing in Morocco and the football exchanges between the two federations are a true testimony to this.”

The FRMF noted that its president, Fouzi Lekjaa, was the first to congratulate Congo’s head coach, Sébastien Desabre, reflecting the team’s high sportsmanship, which was evident throughout the match.

“Moreover, Moroccan player Achraf Hakimi attended the treatment of Congolese player Henoc Inonga Baka,” added the FRMF.

“In making these clarifications, the FRMF reiterates its commitment to the values of good conduct, ethics and fair play, and considers that these facts will only strengthen the fraternal ties between the two countries,” the statement said.
