Macky Sall kick-starts two-day visit to Mauritania to bolster ties
Senegal’s leader Macky Sall embarked this Thursday on a two-day visit to neighboring Mauritania in view of strengthening ties between the two countries sharing several common interests.
The visit is the second by Sall since Mauritania’s Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani ascended to power in 2019.
The first visit which took place in February 2020 focused on economic issues, notably in the fields of energy and fisheries. Both countries then sealed several cooperation agreements.
This new visit comes few days after Mauritania delivered 500 fishing permits to Senegalese fisher folks from Saint Louis as part of the fishing agreement between the two countries.
Pape Sagna Mbaye, Senegal’s Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy handed the permits to the Senegalese fishermen.
Both countries signed a deal in 2018 for Mauritania to provide permits to 400 Senegalese boats and allow them to catch 50,000 tons of fisheries in Mauritania’s high seas.
