Morocco picked to host the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has picked Morocco for the organization of the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF), which made the announcement, stressed that the futsal tournament is the qualifier of the top three teams for the 2024 Futsal World Cup to be held in Uzbekistan.
Morocco will host the quadrennial international futsal championship in April, FRMF added. This is the second time in a row that the North African Kingdom is hosting the tournament after the 2020 edition held in the southern city of Laayoune.
Morocco has one of the strongest futsal teams in the world. In June 2023, the Moroccan team won the Arab Futsal Cup, securing the title for the third consecutive year.
In October, the Moroccan futsal team won the title of the international league in Croatia after beating Turkey 9-0 in the final.
Moroccan sports sector has been recently in a celebratory spree. In addition to Futsal, Morocco will also host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025 and will co-host with Portugal and Spain the 2030 world football cup.
The British Guardian paper highlighted lately Morocco’s sporting development under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.
The Guardian emphasized the good governance within the Moroccan Football Federation and said that the country has the best footballing infrastructure on the continent.
The 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations will be the eighth edition of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.
