Marrakech, top trending destination in 2024- Airbnb says
Marrakech was ranked among the World’s top trending destinations in 2024 for vacation, rental platform Airbnb said.
The Red city, known for its well-preserved centuries-old monuments and vibrant nightlife, was ranked 6th among 24 most attractive cities to visit this year, Airbnb said in a recent report.
The ranking evidences the city’s resilience a few months after a devastating earthquake that reduced many villages in nearby Atlas Mountains to rubble.
The city is Morocco’s first tourist hub thanks to its magical and UNESCO-listed Jemaa Lfna square with its enchanting street performers and flavorful street food.
It is also home to Moorish style hotels and guest houses, a medieval medina with adorned shops in the labyrinth-like alleyways as well as museums such as the Majorelle and Yves Saint Laurent.
Thanks to Marrakech and other tourist destinations across the country, Morocco has already broken its 2019 tourist arrival record with 13.2 million visitors in November 2023, despite challenges to the sector from external shocks and the earthquake.
Morocco expects the number of tourists in 2023 to hit 14 million, a record that is reflective of the resilience of the sector and the attractiveness of Morocco’s offer.
Morocco plans to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026, as it bolsters air and rail travel between cities ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
In a recent deal, Ryanair said it will launch flights connecting 9 Moroccan cities in summer 2024. It also plans to add 24 new international destinations linking Morocco to key markets in Europe.
