Egypt’s General Authority for Investments & Free Zones takes WAIPA Regional directorship for MENA region
Egypt’s General Authority for Investments and Free Zones (GAFI) has been elected as regional director of The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) in the Middle East-North Africa region, at the 27th World Investment Conference (WIC) of the leading global body representing government agencies in charge of attracting inward investment, held in New Delhi.
GAFI beat Mauritania’s Agency for Investment Promotion with 29 against 11 to take the regional directorship, according to the official website of the event.
The election of Egypt’s GAFI came as part of the Geneva-based organization’s General Assembly meeting held on December 12, 2023. The new global steering committee elected at the general assembly is composed of India, re-elected to the Presidency of WAIPA. Switzerland Global Enterprise and Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority were elected jointly as vice presidents.
WIC was launched in 1995 and represents the flagship event of WAIPA. It brings together government officials, business leaders and high-level representatives of multilateral institutions to discuss the current global challenges and opportunities posed by foreign direct investment (FDI).
The 27th WIC started on Dec. 11 and is closing this Thursday Dec. 14.
