US Embassy in Tunis suspends services for two days over security concerns

The US embassy in Tunis announced Wednesday October 11 the suspension of services for two days, October 12-13, for security reasons on the backdrop of a demonstration in support of Palestine amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Tunisia’s powerful labor union UGTT is organizing this October 12 a nationwide demonstration in favor of Palestine, mainly Gaza, amid the ongoing conflict between Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and Israel.

Israel has been pounding for several days the enclave controlled by Hamas in the wake of the Palestinian movement’s last week-end Al Qasa Storm operation that killed more than 1,200 Israelis.

The Israeli counter operation has also killed more than 1,000 Palestinians and caused the destruction of several residential places and buildings.

The US Embassy indicated it is important “to maintain a high level of vigilance and situational awareness in the vicinity of protests and demonstrations,” local media ‘Business News’ reported.
