UNSG Guterres applauds as “exemplary” the solidarity that prevailed in Morocco during earthquake

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, commended the exemplary spirit of solidarity that prevailed in Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, to support the earthquake victims that struck several regions of the Kingdom.

This came in a message read out on his behalf by the High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Miguel Angel Moratinos, Friday evening at the opening ceremony of the 44th edition of the International Cultural Moussem of Assilah’s autumn session.

Antonio Guterres conveyed in his message his support and expressed his solidarity following the earthquake that affected several regions of the Kingdom, praising the strong mobilization of the Moroccan people, who have become an example of solidarity, under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI.

He also praised the generosity of the Moroccans who demonstrated remarkable solidarity to aid the earthquake victims.

Guterres also highlighted the uniqueness of the Assilah Moussem, which succeeds every year in hosting an elite group of intellectuals, politicians, and researchers, and reaffirmed his interest, as Secretary-General of the United Nations, in the African continent in general, and the Greater Sahara in particular.

This edition, taking place from October 6 to 26, under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, at the initiative of the Assilah Forum Foundation, features the organization of several symposiums as part of the 37th edition of the Al-Mu’tamid Ibn Abbad Open University, along with various artistic and cultural activities.
