Vice-chairman of Libyan High Council of State commends Morocco’s efforts to achieve reconciliation in Libya

Vice-chairman of the Libyan High Council of State, Massoud Obeid, hailed Morocco’s ongoing efforts to achieve national reconciliation between the Libyan brothers.

The Skhirat Agreement was a decisive turning point in the process to end the Libyan conflict, noted Obeid during talks in Rabat with speaker of the House of Advisors, Enaam Mayara. He vowed to strengthen cooperation between the Libyan High Council of State and the Moroccan upper house, to benefit from the latter’s experience in various fields, notably staff training.

For his part, Mayara reaffirmed the Kingdom’s permanent readiness to support all the efforts made within the framework of Libyan national reconciliation, with a view to reaching a national consensus between the Libyan brothers and overcoming all the difficulties encountered during the transition period, said the House of Advisors in a statement.

Morocco would spare no effort to support the Libyans in this phase, with the aim of rebuilding a nation-state with strong institutions, Mayara said.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review all the challenges facing the region, in the light of growing security risks and the spread of cross-border armed groups, which require joint efforts to preserve the unity of states and their territorial integrity, the statement said.
