Nigeria, Benin keen to spur custom cooperation

Bachir Adewale Adeniyi, Head of Nigeria’s customs is expected in neighboring Benin Monday July 24 as both countries seek to boost custom cooperation.
Adeniyi, reports say, will hold talks with Benin authorities on several topics including development of trade between the counties and the fight against fraud. The Nigerian top official will meet up with his Benin counterpart Alain Hinkati and the country’s Economy and Finance minister.
Adeniyi during the visit will tour the external foreign trade single window of Benin, Web Fontaine and Cotonou Harbor.
The Nigerian delegation will also learn from Benin’s scanning and tracking goods system. Adeniyi this month indicated that he would begin a discussion with the Benin Customs Administration to address the issues of border security, importation across the border, and deployment of technological solutions to address complex border problems.
