Togo, Canada keen to boost trade

Togo and Canada have expressed their keenness to increase trade between the two countries with a bilateral market estimated at $65.2 million in 2021.
Mary NG, Canada Minister of Trade met in Ottawa with his Togolese counterpart Kodjo Adedze last week, the Togolese government announced Sunday.
The administration of President Faure Gnassingbé said NG and Adedze discuss a range of topics of interest, including SME development, Togo’s attractive and secure business climate, Canadian investment in the country, and the prospect of a partnership between Togo’s and Canada’s Chambers of commerce and industry.
“Canada plays an essential role on the world economic stage, and is renowned for its expertise in key sectors such as innovative technologies, transportation infrastructure and natural resources. We will be able to share our experiences, identify areas where our interests converge, and explore ways and means of strengthening our bilateral trade relations,” Adedze told the media.
Canadian exports to Togo stood in 2021 at $51.4 million while Togolese exports to the North American country are estimated at $13.8 million in the same year.
The two countries, according to Mary NG, are working to establish the upcoming Canada Africa Economic Cooperation Strategy.
