Morocco’s FM meets in Rabat Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi

Morocco’s Foreign minister Nasser Bourita conferred on Wednesday in Rabat with Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi on bilateral and regional issues of common interest.

They hailed cooperation ties that are gaining momentum between the two countries in all sectors, especially in matters of security, according to local press reports.

Though no reference has been made to Israeli recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire Sahara territory following in the footsteps of Washington, many experts think the subject was discussed during the Bourita-Hanegbi meeting as the diplomatic move will strengthen further the relationship between Rabat and Tel Aviv.

The normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel in 2020 within the frame of the US-brokered Abraham Accords gave a new impetus to cooperation between the two countries in all sectors, while Moroccan and Israeli officials have intensified high-level contacts, talks and exchange of visits.

Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana is expected in Morocco this Wednesday, while an Israeli army elite unit is participating in the ongoing annual African Lion exercise organized by Morocco and the United States.

In 2022, trade between the two countries rose to $ 180 million, up 160% compared to 2020 amid huge joint business opportunities offered in tourism, health, water, agriculture, cyber-security, agrifood, transport renewable energies, scientific research, computing, and defense.
