Togo joins Global Green Growth Institute

Togo’s parliament rubber-stamped the West African country’s move to become member of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in view of tapping into the support of the organization’s technical assistance.

The lawmakers voted in favor of President Faure Gnassigbe administration’s bid to join the treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.

The move, according to the legislature, heralds transition to a resilient national economy by promoting job change, job creation, and skills development, local media Togo First reports.

In October 2020, Togo announced its decision to join the Seoul-based organizations.

“Togo, by joining this organization based in Seoul, will strengthen its commitment to sustainable development and the fight for biodiversity, climate change, or access to water and clean energy,” the office of President Gnassigbe said in a statement.

GGGI was established as an international intergovernmental organization in 2012 at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.

The organization envisions to attain a low-carbon, resilient world of strong, inclusive, and sustainable growth and its mission to support Members in the transformation of their economies into a green growth economic model.
