Senegal’s Sports Minister resigns
Yankhoba Diattara, Senegal’s Sports Minister, has tendered in his resignation after his party leader Idrissa Seck demoted him from the Vice-Presidency of the party in a sign of sanction, reports say.
Diattara, member of the former Prime Minister’s party, Rewmi (The country), has been member of the cabinet since September 2022, following Amadou Ba appointment as Premier by President Macky Sall.
He reportedly on Thursday told media that he submitted his resignation from the cabinet “to be more coherent” as he lost the party’s second most powerful position. He announced the decision following a meeting with Idrissa Seck who replaced him with Abdoulaye Ndoye who is the party’s coordinator in Saint Louis.
It is unclear why Seck has demoted his mentee. However, local alleged that both sides are at odds over Diattara’s position on Macky Sall’s controversial plans to run for a third term in office. Seck himself in a Facebook post recently unveiled his plans to run for 2024 elections.
