Guinea to revamp central penitentiary center hosting former leader Moussa Dadis Camara

Mamadi Doumbouya, the leader of transition in Guinea has vowed to refurbish the overpopulated central prison which hosting former President Moussa Dadis Camara, Africa Guinee reports.

The project according to the media is slated to start next week and seeks to improve the conditions of inmates.

The center built during the colonial era with a capacity of 300, now houses more than 1,000 inmates. Their conditions have been denounced by human rights organizations.

Located in capital Conakry, the prison is made of three blocks; one for convicts, another for defendants, and a central corridor.

The inmates include common criminals, highway bandits and several former top state officials including Camara, former Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, and former Speaker of the parliament Amadou Damaro Camara.
