Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire ink deal to strengthen trade relations
Tunisia and Cote d’Ivoire’s Chambers of Commerce and Industry signed last Tuesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster trade relations between the two countries as the North African country seeks to conquer the West African country’s market.
The deal signed by Faman Touré and Ali ben Taher, respectively Presidents of Cote d’Ivoire Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-CI) and that of Tunisia, will see CCI-CI and Tunisia’s Confederation of Citizen Companies (CONECT) to support and organize business meetings as well as to conduct “match-making” meetings or to put economic actors in contact with interesting partners in both countries.
The CCI-CI and CONECT will also assist each other in trade and investment related research.
The signing took place on the sideline of a business trip to the West African country by 70 Tunisian business people operating agri-food, health, information and communication technologies (ICT), insurance and building and construction sectors, Dec. 04-08, Faapa news agency reports.
Over 160 Tunisian companies are operating in Cote d’Ivoire, most of whom in air transportation, health, construction and telecommunication.
Trade between the two countries stood at about $50.1 million in 2020, down from $70 million recorded in 2019 according to Toure. The CCI-CI President argued that the decrease is due to the pandemic.
