Al-Quds: Construction Works of Funeral Services and Body Conservation Units Launched

The foundation stone of two funeral and body conservation units at “Makassed” hospital was laid, in Al-Quds, as part of a financing agreement between Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency and the administration of the health establishment.

This project, the first of its kind in a hospital in Al-Quds, was launched by the director in charge of the management of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, and the Director General of the hospital, Adnane Farhoud, in the presence of members of the administration of the Makassed Association and several personalities from the Holy City.

The project aims to honor the deceased before their return to their families for burial.

The two units, to be built and equipped for a cost of about 180,000 dollars, include six mortuary bathrooms in conformity with the Islamic Sharia, three morgues, and a waiting room for the bereaved relatives.

The project will be established on an area of 100 sqm. It will offer its services to the residents of the Old City of Al-Quds and its suburbs, which have a population of 80,000 people.

In a speech, Farhoud expressed, on behalf of the medical and administrative staff of the hospital, his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, for this contribution to benefit the population, which is short of such units in the health facilities in East Al-Quds.

For his part, Salem Cherkaoui stressed the importance of the project that is part of the activities of the Agency, which continues its actions, under the high directives of King Mohammed VI, for the benefit of the Holy City and its population, through social projects with concrete impact.

Salem Cherkaoui, accompanied by the Director General of the hospital, his assistants and the personalities present, toured the projects implemented by the Agency in this area during the last decade, namely, the ER, dental clinics, and the “Ibn Sina” center for neurosurgery.

Makassed Hospital, the largest hospital in Al-Quds, serves the population of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It was established in 1966. It is also a teaching hospital and has trained many health care professionals in Palestine.
