Benin: Traditional health practitioners welcome appointment of new Director General of WAHO

The Federation of traditional health practitioners of Benin, FANAMETRAB, has welcomed the appointment of Doctor Melchior Athanase Joël C. AISSI as new Director General of the West African Health Organization (WAHO).

Aïssi took over the leadership of the organization following an intervention of the Beninese presidency which contested the appointment of Yves Armand Mongbo also from Benin, as the new WAHO leader in replacement of Stanley Okolo.

Aissi came second behind Mongbo after a screening of candidates. His appointment was confirmed by the regional body ECOWAS which did not provide details about the change.

The FANAMETRAB in a statement signed by its secretary Basile Badjito indicated Aissi is a real good friend of traditional health practitioners and pledged to work with him.

They also thank President Talon for the move. WAHO is based in Bobo Diolasso, Burkina Faso and is tasked to safeguard the health of the peoples in the sub-region through the initiation and harmonization of the policies of Member States, pooling of resources, and cooperation with one another and with others for a collective and strategic combat against the health problems of the sub-region.
