Six Iraqi police forces killed in north of capital Baghdad
Six Iraqi police forces were slain Wednesday after their position was attacked by Islamic state group (ISIS) fighters, in north of capital Baghdad, AFP reports citing a military source.
“Between 10 and 15 ISIS group fighters attacked this federal police forward position around 12:30 am (2130 GMT Tuesday). The attack lasted around an hour,” the source said, asking not to be identified.
The attackers struck near the village of Al-Jillam in an area 140 kilometers (90 miles) north of Baghdad, the agency added.
The area still witnesses activities by the terror group. Seven other police forces were also injured in the attack. Iraq declared victory over ISIS in 2017 but is still reeling with sporadic attacks from the group’s fighters.
