Morocco: Three monkeypox suspected cases are negative – Health Ministry

The laboratory results of the three suspected cases of monkeypox recorded in Morocco are negative, the Ministry of Health said Wednesday.

The three suspected cases turned out to be negative following laboratory tests carried out at the Ibn Sina military hospital in Marrakech, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the suspected cases placed under medical surveillance are in good health and are being treated in accordance with current health procedures.

Based on epidemiological data, no confirmed case of monkeypox has been recorded in Morocco so far, the ministry added.

The health department reacted swiftly by setting up an epidemiological monitoring and surveillance system for suspected cases of the disease, with laboratory analyses being carried out both at the National Institute of Hygiene and in military laboratories.

Health officials received training on this disease which has never been detected in the Kingdom, the ministry said.
