Morocco & Mauritania discuss cooperation ties in defense & security

Moroccan Minister-Delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration, Abdeltif Loudyi, conferred Tuesday in Rabat with Mauritanian Major Gen. El Mokhtar Bolle Chaâbane, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces.

The two officials stressed the need to deepen and broaden the scope of military cooperation ties in the field of defense and security, insisting on the exchange of experience & expertise between the two countries’ Armed Forces to counter security threats, including the illegal migration and trafficking, said a statement released by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

They also praised the efforts made by the two countries to boost regional cooperation in the Western Mediterranean within the frame of the “5+5 Defense” Initiative under the Mauritanian presidency in 2021 and Moroccan presidency in 2022.

The Mauritanian General was also received, the same day, by Lt. General, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of Southern Zone. Talks focused on relations of friendship and military cooperation existing between the two countries.

Afterwards, they co-chaired the 3rd meeting of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Joint Military Commission to review last year’s cooperation activities and discuss the joint military activities planned during the 2022-2023 period, particularly in training, operational training, technical support and exchanges of visits and expertise.
