Morocco opens vaccination for pupils aged 12-17

Morocco presses ahead with its vaccination campaign adding the 12-17 year-old age bracket as it moves steadily towards achieving herd immunity.

The decision was announced after Morocco added Pfizer vaccine shipments to its inoculation campaign, dominated so far by Sinopharm followed by AstraZeneca and 300,000 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

So far, Morocco has administered 18.5 million first doses and more than 14.3 million people have so far been fully vaccinated in a country of about 37 million people.

Cases have surged this summer due to new and more contagious variants after Morocco loosened restrictive measures.

But the country restored a night curfew starting 21:00 as well as social distancing and asked restaurants and cafes to operate at half capacity.
