Tunisia hauls blogger in prison for insulting President Saied

A Tunisian court has sent to prison a prominent blogger accused of defamation against President Kais Saied.

Slim Jebali, administrator of a Facebook page dubbed “Minister of Hypertension and Diabetes” appeared before the military prosecutor in Tunis first instance court to answer questions about three posts dating back to February. The court ordered his arrest and detention in prison after the hearing, Webdo Tunis reports.

The office of the President sued Jebali, also known as Mohamed Louzir, for defamation against the Tunisian leader.

The blogger made the headlines in 2017 when he was arrested after the lawsuit lodged by the communication advisor of former Prime Minister Mofdi Mseddi for defamation through social media.
