Morocco recalls its ambassador to Germany in a spat over Sahara
Morocco has recalled its Ambassador to Berlin for consultation in a diplomatic spat over the Sahara and in protest against the “the hostile acts” made by Germany to undermine the interests of the North African Kingdom.
Germany has adopted “a destructive attitude on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara”, following the US presidential Proclamation recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, said the Moroccan foreign ministry in a press release.
Furthermore, the German authorities “act with complicity towards a former terror convict by disclosing to him sensitive information provided by the Moroccan security services to their German counterparts”, added the ministry.
Morocco also explained its diplomatic move by “a continued German determination to counter the Kingdom’s regional influence, especially on the Libyan issue”, by excluding Rabat from a number of regional meetings devoted to resolving this issue as the one held in Berlin.
