Covid-19: Morocco reports first cases of Indian variant
Moroccan Health ministry said on Monday that two cases of the Indian variant of Covid-19 have been found in the country. The first case is an inbound traveller coming from overseas, while the second is one of his close contacts.
To prevent the spread of the highly transmissible Indian strain, the authorities have traced all their contacts and ordered them to self-isolate for 14 days as precautionary measures.
The North African kingdom, which has suspended flights with India and several other countries amid fears over coronavirus infections, has up to date 511,912 positive cases of Covid-19 and a death toll standing currently at 9,032.
Morocco is taking the regional lead in vaccination against coronavirus with over 9.3 million people immunized, including 4.2 million people who received their second shot.
