COVID-19: Morocco receives second batch of 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine

Morocco has received this Tuesday a second batch of 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine, bringing Morocco’s total number of received COVID-19 vaccines to seven million.

A Royal Air Maroc aircraft brought the Chinese-developed Sinopharm vaccine doses from Beijing.

The shipment brings the total number of Sinopharm vaccines secured by Morocco to one million, following a similar delivery of 500,000 doses in late January.

Morocco has also received 6 million doses of the UK-made AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by India’s Serum Institute.

By this Feb 16, Morocco had Africa’s largest vaccinated population with over 1.9 million people inoculated.

The country, which ordered 66 million coronavirus vaccine doses, plans to reach herd immunity by vaccinating 80% of its population within 5 months as it keeps receiving vaccine shipments regularly.
