Covid-19: US congratulates Morocco’s King for launching vaccination campaign, “an achievement worthy of recognition”

The United States has congratulated King Mohammed VI for launching the nationwide vaccination campaign against the Covid-19 pandemic, saying it is the first major operation rolled out in the African continent.

In a letter sent Monday to the Monarch, the US Chargé d’Affaires in Rabat David Greene extended his “warm congratulations” on the launch of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign, “the first major country-wide operation in Africa, under the watchful eye of Your Majesty”.

“Given the pressures and the global challenges in addressing the pandemic, I commend the outstanding perseverance and solidarity of the government and the people of Morocco”, added the US diplomat, affirming that the launch of the vaccination campaign by the Sovereign on January 28 “is truly an achievement worthy of recognition”.

Indeed, the Moroccan King had received the first dose of the vaccine on live television to demonstrate that the vaccine is safe and effective and encourage Moroccans and foreign residents to follow suit as the covid vaccines are free.

Morocco started vaccination operation after receiving two million AstraZeneca vaccine doses and a half million vaccines from China’s Sinopharm company.

So far, 200,081 priority people have been vaccinated in Morocco. These include doctors, health workers, security agents, teachers and elderly people.

The North African Kingdom has ordered 66 million vaccine doses to inoculate 33 million inhabitants against the Coronavirus and achieve collective immunization.
