Morocco: Police seize 121,600 counterfeited facemasks, arrest profiteer
Moroccan police have seized over the weekend in Casablanca 121,600 counterfeited facemasks before their packaging and labeling as genuine branded products of well-known companies selling medical supplies.
A 32-year old man was arrested for his involvement is these unsafe products that pose great additional risks to consumers during the covid-19 pandemic.
The fraudster was captured following a complaint lodged by a medical supply company whose reputation has been put in jeopardy.
Moroccan authorities are working hard to identify and intercept such dangerous goods before they can reach and harm consumers. The phony facemasks are often made in unsterile sweatshops not respecting the safety guidelines.
Some unscrupulous businesses and traders, who seek quick gains, avail the opportunity of high demands for personal protective gear needed against COVID-19 to sell pharmaceutical and medical goods not complying with the legal safety standards.
