Morocco orders R-Pharm Covid-19 vaccine

Morocco placed an order with Russian drug maker R-Pharm to acquire Covid-19 vaccine produced under a license from the UK’s AstraZenica, the health ministry said.

AstraZenica developped the vaccine together with Oxford and R-Pharm has received the highest portion of vaccine orders globally so far.

The deal was distantly signed by health minister Khaled Ait Taleb, General Director of R-Pharma, Vasily Ignatiev, and the vice president of Astrazeneca.

The order was placed amid a surge in coronavirus cases, which hit a new record of 2760 on Friday with total accumulated cases standing at 97,264.

Moroccan authorities have maintained anti-coronavirus restrictive measures in Casablanca, which remains Morocco’s most affected city.

The country has also reassured as to the availability of anti-Covid-19 medicine including hydroxychloroquine and vitamin C.

On September 18, Morocco had 18,819 active cases, 1755 deaths and 76,690 recoveries.

Morocco has also started trials for China’s Sinopharm vaccine in Casablanca and Rabat hospitals.
