Morocco continues to struggle with coronavirus hotspots in industrial plants
Hotspots continue to complicate Morocco’s efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus with 393 cases on Saturday, most of which at a Sardine canning factory in the coastal city of Safi.
After the strawberry fields and packaging plants north of Kenitra, a new cluster in Safi’s fish canning factories recorded 203 in a single day.
Footage of the city showed tightening of measures and closure of the city’s entrances and exits as well as restrictive measures in the city’s southern neighborhoods where the infected people live.
Safi has since the beginning of the lockdown in Morocco been one of the least infected cities.
Under Morocco’s health emergency status restrictive measures can be restored after they were lifted in early June.
Most cases (98%) show no symptoms as the country implements an early detection process urging all companies to test their staff. Total tests rose to 765580.
By Monday, the country has recorded 14,329 cases including 9,837 recoveries and 235 deaths. Active cases stand at 4,492 with only 17 in critical condition.
