Covid-19: Morocco’s ventilator “iVent” goes into clinical trials

The ventilator developed by Moroccan scientists for critically-ill covid-19 patients is currently undergoing clinical tests to prove its efficiency, safety and performance.

Dubbed “iVent, this breathing machine, which has become a hot commodity with the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, has been made by a team of Moroccan experts from Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), Green Energy Park, ENSET of Mohammed V University, ESSTI and startups eDEEP / eSMART.

They say their prototype is a reliable and affordable apparatus. More than 80 pc of its components are locally manufactured. Its final version will include an electronic card offering health professionals four ventilation modes.

“iVent” also includes a set of sensors that can detect leaks or abnormalities.

Once it receives approval from the medical & scientific regulatory bodies, this ventilator, which is supported by industrial and financial groups, will go into production targeting the local and the African markets.
