Morocco’s coronavirus transmission rate drops to 0.8

The number of people a coronavirus positive case can infect dropped to 0.8 nationwide amid a partial confinement that runs until June 10.

Prime Minister Saad Eddine EL Othmani had said that easing the lockdown hinges on lowering the transmission rate and the mortality rate, which now stands below 3%.

By Friday, industrial clusters continued to account for most of the 88 new cases that tested positive for the virus increasing the number of the infected people to 7332, which includes 197 deaths and 4377 recoveries.

Most cases were found in the region of Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, Fez, Rabat and Errachidia.

Morocco has also increased its testing capacity to 10,000 tests daily in different laboratories across the Kingdom. Total tested cases stood at 123,402 by Friday.

Meanwhile, the finance ministry issued a document advising employees to take precautionary measures and adopt flexible working hours in order to prevent contagion in the workplace.
