COVID-19: Morocco to boost testing capacity to 10,000 daily

Morocco prepares to double the number of daily coronavirus tests from 5000 to 10,000, head of the government Saad Eddine El Othmani said.

Ending the confinement requires stepping up tests as much as possible in line with WHO recommendations, he told MPs Monday.

This would help rapid results of infected people and contact cases, he said, adding that Morocco was focused on upgrading its health system.

Morocco had only two testing centers when the first case was found on March 2 but now it has 13 laboratories across the country in addition to five labs run by the armed forces and three private ones, he said.

By Monday evening, total coronavirus cases rose to 6952 including 192 deaths and 3758 recoveries.
