Morocco: COVID-19 Cases Climb to 49
Five new positive coronavirus cases were announced on Wednesday in Morocco, bringing the total of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 49.
Like the other cases, all the new cases came from abroad. These are two French tourists, two Moroccans returning from Spain and one Moroccan coming from Egypt.
All infected patients are receiving the necessary medical care and treatments, said Moroccan health authorities, urging citizens to take necessary precautions and follow hygiene guidelines to reduce contamination risks.
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI ordered on Tuesday the Royal armed forces to use field hospitals to help health services fight the coronavirus outbreak.
Donations to a special fund to improve health infrastructure and alleviate the pandemic’s social and economic impact have exceeded $1billion, following contributions from major state-owned and private companies, banks and individuals.
The board of directors of Al Mada Holding, on the proposal of its main shareholder, donated more than $200 million to this special fund.
The novel Coronavirus has so far killed two people in Morocco wherein the majority of confirmed cases were brought in by travelers coming mainly from Spain, Italy and France.
Morocco has suspended all international flights, closed mosques, schools, entertainment and sports venues and non-essential shops as a precautionary measure against the pandemic.
Globally, the death toll increases by the hour reaching as of this Wednesday noon 8,229. The number of sickened people reached 203,612, while 82,866 have survived the virus.
