Morocco, Mauritania set to foster ties amid regional instability

The means to foster ties between Morocco and Mauritania in a region beset by instability is at the heart of a visit by Morocco’s Foreign Minister to Nouakchott.

Foreign minister Nasser Bourita’s visit also comes after a series of meetings between the two countries’ officials focusing on a set of issues including security cooperation.

Morocco has recently, as a sign of stronger relations, celebrated Mauritania as a guest of honor of the International Casablanca Book Fair.

However, the cancellation of the Mauritanian culture minister of his visit to the fair let many think there might be a misunderstanding that Bourita’s visit came to dissipate.

Bourita had said in a recent statement to the media that ties with Spain are stronger than those with Algeria and Mauritania, which according to Moroccan media was at the heart of the misunderstanding.
