Morocco Receives Record 13 Million Tourists in 2019
Morocco closed 2019 with a record number of 13 million tourists visiting the country, that is a 5.2% rise compared with 2018, the tourism ministry said.
Tourism revenues rose to 78.6 billion dirhams in 2019, from 73.15 billion dirhams in 2018, making the sector one of the main sources of hard currency for Morocco.
With such a performance, Morocco maintains its leadership as Africa’s most visited country.
Western European countries continue to dominate arrivals as the country seeks to diversify tourism emitting markets with a particular focus on the US and China.
From 10 million tourists in 2016, Morocco is progressing steadily towards the goal of becoming one of the world’s 20 largest tourist markets, Research and Markets said in a report.
Morocco has launched Vision 2020, aiming to double the size of tourist sector and boosting revenues to $15bn annually by the end of the decade.
