Morocco’s Agricultural Exports Rise 97% in 2010-2019
Morocco’s agricultural exports rose by 97% to 57.7 billion dirhams (over 3 million tons) between 2010 and 2019, Morocco’s export agency Foodex said.
Agricultural exports represented 21% of overall Moroccan exports in 2018, it said.
Separately, head of the government Saad Eddine El Othmani said Morocco is lowering the vulnerability of its economy to rainfall, which often affects output.
Morocco, where agriculture makes up 14% of GDP and employs 80% of the rural work force, is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts leaving smallholder farmers at risk.
Agriculture output grew by 60% since the launch of the Green Morocco plan, jumping from 79 billion dirhams in 2008 to 125 billion in 2018.
