Polisario’s debacle in Latin America continues
The Polisario’s debacle in Latin America is continuing. In just one week, Salvador has reiterated its support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and announced its decision to open an embassy in Rabat, while the Paraguayan Parliament has adopted a new resolution in support of the Moroccan autonomy initiative within the framework of the national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
Salvador’s decision was announced by Foreign Minister Juana Alexandra Hill Tinoco, during a visit to Rabat.
The resolution by the Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies (lower house), the third of its kind in less than two years, was adopted unanimously. The text expressed clear support for Morocco’s national cause, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In its resolution, the Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies welcomed the UN Security Council new resolution on the Moroccan Sahara issue, expressing its support for the parameters defined by the Council in order to achieve a solution to the dispute, which can only be political, realistic, pragmatic, sustainable and compromise-based.
The Chamber of Deputies voiced its support for the political process, which led to the convening of two roundtables in Geneva.
The document underlined the pre-eminence, the seriousness and the credibility of the Morocco-proposed autonomy initiative, stressing that this initiative is the only credible and serious basis for a final solution, within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco and complies with the parameters defined by the Security Council.
The Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies also welcomed measures and initiatives undertaken by Morocco to promote human rights and called for the protection of the populations in the Tindouf camps. In this connection, the text stressed the need to conduct a census of these populations.
Paraguayan Foreign Minister, Luis Alberto Castiglioni, said recently that his country reiterates its unconditional support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara conflict and for all initiatives in support of the kingdom. “We are very pleased that relations between Paraguay and Morocco are at their best and we are working to make them even better.”
