Morocco underscores commitment to roadmap protecting children’s right

Morocco expressed at the highest level strong attachment to advancing the rights of children through the adoption of a roadmap drawing a series of priority actions to protect children.

This came at an event chaired by Princess Lalla Meryem, sister of King Mohammed VI, celebrating the 16th National Congress of the Rights of the Child and also the 30th anniversary of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CIDE) and the 20th anniversary of the Parliament of the Moroccan child.

Speaking on this occasion, head of the National Observatory for Chidren’s rights (ONDE) Lamia Bazir briefed the audience on the actions to be taken by 2030 under the National Pact for the Child.

A document providing for support to the Pact was then signed by Parliamentary speaker, and ministers of justice, huma rights, education, health, the interior, family and solidarity as well as finance ministry, the public prosecutor and ONDE.

Speaking at the same event, Moroco’s ambassador to the UN in New York, Omar Hilale who is also President of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), delivered the closing remarks stressing the priority attached by Morocco to the rights of the child.

In a video message, UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore, commended Morocco’s support for children’s rights and lauded the actions spurred in that regard by King Mohammed VI.

During the event, Senior Advisor in the Office of the Executive Director of UNICEF Geert Cappelaere handed to Princess Lalla Meryem the UN Champion Generation Unlimited Prize, awarded to her by the United Nations, in recognition for her efforts to promote and protect the rights of the child.
