Algeria: Army to fly over 800 supporters to Egypt for AFCON final

The Algerian army has mobilized six military aircraft to fly 870 Algerians to Egypt as the national soccer team lock horns with Senegal Friday at the final of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON.

The army Monday said it added three additional aircraft to fly 270 more supporters.

Algeria joined Senegal Sunday for the AFCON final axing Nigeria in a 2-1 victory with the second goal coming from capital Riyad Karim Mahrez’s boot from last minute free-kick.

The Fennecs will play Friday their third final. Their lone victory at the tournament dates back to 1990.

The final comes amid unprecedented political uncertainty that gripped the country since late February.

The army has emerged as the major power in the North African country. The army and demonstrators early April forced former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to step down.
