Morocco’s Interior Ministry warns against using charity for electoral ends
Morocco’s interior ministry has warned to take action against those who resort to charity during the holy month of Ramadan for electoral purposes, Moroccan media said.
The distribution of charity requires a permit from competent authorities, the ministry said.
Many politicians use charity by distributing foodstuff to the needy as a means to win new voters, an unethical practice which the interior ministry is combatting while installing legal means for charity.
Some elected members have been using the budget of their communes to win voters through charity, local papers said.
People who violate rules governing charity will be facing penalties and legal suits.
