Tunisia: State of emergency extended for another month

President Caid Essebsi Monday extended for another month the state of emergency in place in Tunisia since November 2015 following a deadly attack that hit the presidential protection team.

The extension of the nationwide state of emergency from February 5 to March 6 was taken after consultation with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of Representatives on issues related to national security, said a statement from the Presidency.
Last January 4, President Caïd Essebsi had decided to extend the state of emergency for one month from January 6 to February 4, 2019.

Tunisia has been under the state of emergency since November 24, 2015 after a suicide bomber detonated his bomb against a van carrying members of the Presidential guard.

It has ever since been extended several times.
