Marrakech Hosts 8th Africities Summit Next Week
About 3000 officials are expected to attend the 8th edition of the Africities Summit in Morocco next week.
The Summit will take place from November 20–24, 2018 in Marrakesh, under the theme: “The transition to sustainable cities and territories: The role of local and regional governments in Africa.”
According to the organizers, this forum will include nearly 150 sessions and more than twenty workshops.
Africities, the flagship pan-African event of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA Africa), takes place every three years in one of the five regions of the continent.
The Africities summit aims to define the appropriate strategies and to share them in order to improve the living conditions of the populations at the local level. It also contributes to peace, integration and African unity.
The Marrakech meeting constitutes a momentous moment in the drive of the decentralization process in Africa, and in the reflection on the place and role of local governments in the governance and development of African countries.
This eighth edition of Africities features an exhibition that will display the work of 400 to 500 exhibitors from all over the continent.
