Morocco Rescues 472 Migrants off Atlantic & Mediterranean Coasts
Morocco’s Royal navy rescued 427 illegal migrants on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.
The navy said in a statement that it intercepted the migrants on board dinghy boats.
Moroccan authorities said they dismantled over 80 illegal migration network and foiled more than 50,000 illegal immigration attempts in 2017.
Morocco’s efforts to tighten the noose on criminal networks is part of a comprehensive policy towards immigration that is underpinned by a humanitarian approach placing priority on the rights of immigrants.
Morocco has offered the legalization of the stay of illegal migrants in its territory. The legalization campaign has so far granted legal stay rights to more than 24,000 migrants.
