Morocco’s Handicrafts Exports Exceed 622 mln Dirhams Up to November 2017
Morocco’s exports of handicrafts exceeded 622 million dirhams between January and November 2017, Minister in charge of the sector Jamila El Mossali said.
Local media reported that El Mossali said at the launch of the national handicrafts fair to run till 31 December, 2017 that the sector employs 2.5 million people and represents 7% of the national GDP.
She said that her department will showcase Moroccan handicrafts through the setting up of permanent fairs in airports and train stations.
She also announced the creation of an observatory in charge of promoting and assisting handicraft artists.
El Moussali stressed the need for more incentives to increase Morocco’s exports of handicrafts, noting that 80% of Morocco’s craft production is marketed locally.
