Morocco joined Arab countries taking part in the 17th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, held on Monday in Cairo alongside the 7th Arab Water Conference.
Discussions covered follow-up on the executive plan of the Arab Water Security Strategy to 2030, the water-related Sustainable Development Goals, the protection of Arab countries’ water rights and the coordination of Arab positions on water at regional and international levels.
Participants also reviewed preparations for Arab participation in the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, scheduled for December in the United Arab Emirates, and in the 11th World Water Forum, to be held in Riyadh in March 2027. The agenda also included ways to develop the water sector in Palestine.
Technical issues were on the table too: the water-energy-food nexus, wider use of unconventional water resources, and the use of digitalization and artificial intelligence in water management. Delegates also touched on disaster-risk reduction, water-stress management and water security in conflict and reconstruction contexts.
The session is part of efforts to strengthen Arab cooperation against water scarcity and climate change and to promote sustainable management of water resources.
