Morocco’s national film center (CCM) has selected five documentary projects to represent the Kingdom at the Euro-Mediterranean Documentary Market (MEDIMED), running October 8 to 11 in Sitges, Spain, Aujourd’hui le Maroc reported.
The projects were chosen from 51 submissions to take part in the 27th edition’s Pitching Forum, a reference platform bringing together broadcasters, co-producers, financiers and other international audiovisual industry players.
The call for projects targeted Moroccan producers and directors, aiming to identify promising works and give them visibility beyond national borders. A jury of industry professionals reviewed submissions against the market’s participation conditions and selection criteria before settling on the final five.
They are “Woman in the Sun,” directed by Merieme Addou and produced by Karim Aïtouna for Haut Les Mains Productions in France and by Addou herself for Iris Prod in Morocco; “Karama,” by Fatim Layachi, produced by Younes Lazrak in Morocco; “Spiritual Diaries,” by Rim Mejdi, produced by Tifaw Films in Morocco and Qatar; “The Mountain of Patience,” by Sami Saif Sir El Khatim, produced by Kenza Alioua and Sir El Khatim for Pianky Pictures in Morocco; and “Ancient Bling,” by Robin Bicknell, produced by Hind Saih for Bellota Films in a Morocco-France-Qatar co-production.
Participation in the Pitching Forum will let the five teams present their work before a panel of international documentary professionals, a strategic space for building new collaborations and exposing projects to potential partners. Beyond the pitch itself, the stakes include developing co-production, financing and international distribution opportunities in a sector where cross-border partnerships play an increasingly central role.
Through this selection, the CCM reaffirmed its commitment to developing Morocco’s national documentary sector and supporting its professionals, describing the initiative as part of a broader effort to connect Moroccan project holders with major international production, co-production, financing and distribution networks while strengthening Moroccan documentary’s presence on the international stage.
