Wydad bids farewell to Atlas Lions star Hakim Ziyech

Casablanca-based Wydad Athletic Club have officially parted ways with international star Hakim Ziyech by mutual consent, bringing an abrupt end to a high-profile but short-lived chapter in the club’s history, Wydad said.

Ziyech, 33, had joined Wydad in October 2025 as a free agent following his departure from Qatari side Al-Duhail.

His arrival generated massive excitement among fans and was widely regarded as one of the biggest transfers in Botola Pro history.

“This chapter may not have lasted as long as we had hoped, but seeing you wear the Wydad jersey will always remain a special moment for the club and its supporters,” Wydad said in a farewell message.

“Your presence will remain a unique chapter in our history. You were one of us, and you will always remain part of the Wydad family. Thank you, Hakim, and best of luck in what comes next,” it added.

On the pitch, Ziyech made a solid contribution across 16 appearances in all competitions. The former Ajax and Chelsea playmaker scored nine goals and provided two assists.

His direct goal involvements underlined his quality whenever available, even if injuries and other factors prevented a longer, more consistent run.
