King Mohammed VI was represented by Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch at the inauguration ceremony for President of São Tomé and Príncipe Carlos Vila Nova, who was re-elected to a second term following elections held on July 19.
Vila Nova was sworn in as President of São Tomé and Príncipe for a new five-year term at a ceremony held at the National Assembly headquarters in São Tomé on Thursday in the presence of several heads of state and government.
The Monarch had previously sent a message of congratulations to Vila Nova on the occasion of his reelection, in which he reaffirmed his determination to continue working with the São Toméan President towards stronger distinguished ties between the two countries, rooted in brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual esteem, and driven by a shared commitment to fostering constructive bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples.
Carlos Vila Nova was re-elected in the first round of the presidential election with 55.88% of votes.
